Definition
Section 754 lets a partnership step up (or down) the basis of partnership property when a partner transfers their interest or upon certain distributions. The election is binding for all future tax years unless revoked with IRS consent.
Examples
- A partnership with a deceased partner's estate stepping into a higher basis can make a 754 election to push the step-up into inside basis.
