Definition
U.S. persons with foreign financial accounts whose aggregate value exceeded $10,000 at any time during the calendar year must file FBAR (FinCEN Form 114) electronically by April 15 with an automatic extension to October 15. FBAR is separate from Form 8938 reporting.
Examples
- A U.S. citizen with a foreign bank account peaking at $15,000 during the year must file FBAR.
