Child Tax Credit (CTC)
A partially refundable credit for taxpayers with qualifying children under age 17.

Definition
The Section 24 CTC was expanded by TCJA to a $2,000 credit per qualifying child under age 17, with up to $1,700 (2024) refundable as the Additional Child Tax Credit. The credit phases out at $200,000 single / $400,000 joint MAGI.
Examples
- A couple with two qualifying children under 17 and below the phaseout receives $4,000 in CTC.
