Definition
UK Capital Gains Tax under TCGA 1992 applies to chargeable gains above the annual exempt amount (3,000 GBP for 2024-25). Rates are generally 10 or 20 percent for non-residential gains (18 / 28 percent for residential property), depending on the taxpayer's total income.
Examples
- A UK individual selling investment shares with gain above 3,000 GBP pays CGT at 10 or 20 percent depending on income.
